Solving Enforcement Problems

Having to interact with law enforcement is a reality here at UNL. It's never fun to get caught doing something you're not supposed to be doing, but you should always receive fair and equitable treatment by any law or community service officer. Here are positive steps you can take to avoid or solve negative or uncomfortable interactions with police:

Know the laws and policies
The simplest way of avoiding problems is by obeying the laws and policies. In case you're not sure what's legal here, this page will fill you in on everything you need to know.
To Complain about a Lincoln Police Officer
The Lincoln Police Department has a process where you can file a complaint against an officer. Every complaint is thoroughly investigated. In your e-mail, be sure to include the date, time, and area of the incident, a specific complaint about the inappropriate behavior of the officer, and any additional details. Additional information (officer's name, etc.) is helpful but not necessary.Go to the LPD website. Send a complaint by e-mail.
To Complain about a UNLPD Officer or CSO The UNLPD also have a process where you can file a complaint against an officer. Every complaint is thoroughly investigated. In your e-mail, be sure to include the date, time, and area of the incident, a specific complaint about the inappropriate behavior of the officer, and any additional details. Communicate to the coalition The NU Directions coalition is always using student and community feedback to solve problems and build relationships between groups on and off campus. Let us know the problem you're having, or about an area that you feel needs better enforcement. We'll get it to the appropriate partner.
Report an incident You also have the ability to make enforcement work by reporting alcohol-related crimes to the appropriate authorities. You can report a sexual assualt, or any other alcohol-related incident either in the city of Lincoln or at UNL anonymously.
